MEDIA COVERAGE:

Interest in our research on displaced workers (predominately women) has been widespread enough that it has received extensive media coverage. Articles discussing our Robertshaw study have appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Press, Greensburg TribuneReview, Johnstown TribuneDemocrat, Mountain Life and Work, Valley Independent, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Indiana Evening Gazette, Punxsutawney Spirit, Newsletter of the Mental health Association in Indiana County, The Pennsylvania Sociologist, Indiana Penn., Pitt Summer News Magazine, York Pa. Dispatch, the APSCUF Newsletter, WOMENnews, and the Wall Street Journal. After the Wall Street Journal article appeared, a Chicago based reporter for the National Public Radio came to Indiana to interview us and some of the dislocated women whom we had interviewed. Our comments and impressions were included in a story on displaced blue collar women for the National Public Radio Program, "With All Things Considered", which was broadcast nationwide on August 27, 1985. On the local level, we were interviewed about our research in November, 1985 for a two part special program for Homer City's radio station WCCS. We were also cited in the Report of the National Commission on Mental Health and Unemployment of the National Mental Health Association, "Unemployment and Mental Health in America: American Dream or Nightmare?" (Alexandria, Virginia: National Mental Health Association, 1985), because of testimony we presented as expert witnesses before the Commission on Mental Health, November 12, 1985.

Interest in our research on earnings patterns among dual income couples has also been widespread. Sam Roberts, "When a Woman Earns Like a Man", The New York Times, Nov. 6, 1994; Ann Scheck, "Picture is Changing for Dual Income Family", Investors Business Daily, Sept. 2, 1994; Margaret Udansky and Jennifer Krause, "Women Earn Bigger Check in 1 of Every 6 Couples", USA Today, August 10, 1994, Eva Pomice, “When She Earns More” Good Housekeeping, January, 1996, Georgia Pabst, :Checks and Balances”, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, February 11, 1996, “A Woman of Independent Means,”, The Do(o)little Report, December 1995, and Robert Kilbourn, Jr, “Seeking New Jobs After the Pink Slip,” Christian Science Monitor, July 17, 1995 all reported on our research.  More recently our research has been mentioned in  Cosmopolitian, and Ladies Home Journal.
