David J. Rovnan Memorial Journalism Scholarship For 2008-2009 Journalism majors at IUP are invited to apply now for a $1,000 grant. Journalism majors who will be juniors or seniors in September 2008 are eligible to apply. The David J. Rovnan Scholarship award is open to staff members and editors of The Penn and who will be IUP students in the fall of 2008. Applicants should submit a completed application form, a letter with accompanying resume, detailing qualifications, and related experience, to the Secretary, Journalism Department, 434 Davis Hall, no later than 4 p.m., April 1, 2008. Your application should describe in detail contributions made to The Penn during the student’s tenure with the campus paper, and the importance the award will have in your career preparation. Include any documentation to support the application—including clippings, letters of support, etc. Finalists may be invited to an interview by the awarding panel. Scholarships will be awarded during the spring semester, 2008. The David J. Rovnan Memorial Award was established in 1989 to honor the member of the IUP Penn who best represents the journalistic ideals and practices, and the high personal and professional standards set by David J. Rovnan, an IUP journalism alumnus who served as The Penn editor in 1984. The applicant must show evidence of superior aptitude, interest, dedication, service, industry and integrity. The scholarship was established through the generosity of the Joseph Rovnan family and by the many contributions made by his many friends, fellow students and colleagues .
