Ideas for this year:

• Membership – New members should fill out a form
  
• Symposiums – Bill brought up assisting with the planning of a symposium on diabetes this fall. In the spring we may put together a symposium on climate change and global warming with the College Dems. It would be sweet if we could get Al Gore or his daughter, since this is what they do.
  
• If we do the global warming forum, we might have a showing of An Inconvenient Truth. All of this would be open to the whole campus, and we would be promoting the events.
  
• Workshops – We talked about possibly holding writing and reporting workshops with professional journalists. We could use SPJ people.
  
• WIUP-FM - Bill and Jared have a show called Indie Week in Review. It hasn't started yet for the year, but they're looking for people and ideas. No experience necessary.
  
• Recognition – We discussed the pros and cons of recognition as a student organization.
  
• Pros: We would get money from the Student Cooperative Association.
  
• Cons: We'd be accepting money from the Student Cooperative Association. We decided to fill out the paperwork, but not submit it yet.
  
• The Penn – We discussed the state of The Penn, whether we should take a stand and how to take a stand.
  
• State of The Penn : It's down to two issues a week and no summer issues.
  
• Letter from Margaret Harper: Dr. Loomis read a letter from Penn editor and SPJ member Margaret Harper. She felt that if we try to help the Penn, we should investigate and bring to light the issues, and keep this from becoming a personal attack.
  
• With this and everything else, we just overviewed what's going on. Further discussion and all action will be taken in the future.
  
• Radio - Bill and Jared are looking for participation in their SPJ show. Radio knowledge is not considered important. They would like to have a new time-slot, preferably one with greater amounts of listeners.
