Business

This was a short meeting, mainly to discuss committee work and goals for next semester. We went discussed possibilities for each, and then the groups that were present met.

Each committee should meet the first week back after break, and there will be an all-member meeting the second week of classes.

• Award Submissions – Award submission dates for the Pennsylvania Association of Newspapers and SPJ awards are coming up on Dec. 22 and in Jan., respectively. If anyone is interested in submitting anything they've written, contact Nate or Margaret.

Committees:

• Finance and Fundraising – (Rose, Kendra)

•  Sweeney Fund. They can figure out what fundraisers we should have such as shirts, a concert, an oddity show. They'll be working with the programs committee on the nuts and bolts of where, when, what's involved, if we have a concert. Figuring out who has paid dues.

• Programs, Workshops and Conferences – (Eli, Emily, Todd, Beckie)

•  Diabetes – The Murtha/Atwater diabetes symposium will be held March 29 at IUP. Among special guests are Kendall Simmons and Lou Tepper. They'll be in charge of figuring out how we should be involved with that.

•  Conferences and workshops – They can look into finding us conferences to attend and speakers to bring here. In this area, they'll be working with alumni committee.

• Alumni – (Liz, Anthony, Lauren)

•  Dealing with money and workshops

•  First order of business: drafting a letter to send to all on Anthony's list, then hitting up those interested for money and coming for workshops.

• The Penn – (Bill, Anna, Landon)

•  Working on the decision of what to do about that situation. This group would have the task of being the group's fact-finders. What to do and actually doing it would be a job for the entire SPJ.

• Publications – (Jared, Brandon, Kaitlyn)

•  Originally, it was with the Graphic Design Student Organization that we were going to create a publication, but we haven't heard from them in quite a while. This group is in charge of the logistics of the publication, whether or not they are involved. All of the SPJ can contribute to it and help put it together.
