David J. Rovnan Memorial Journalism Scholarship

For 2006-2007

Applications are invited for the David J. Rovnan Scholarship.

The award is open to staff, senior staff members and editors of The Penn who will be IUP students in the fall of 2006.

The applicant should submit a letter to the

Chair, Journalism Scholarship Committee , Rovnan Scholarship , Journalism Department , Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 434 Davis Hall, IUP, Indiana, PA 15701,

Your application should describe in detail contributions made to The Penn during the student's tenure with the campus paper, and the importance the award will have in your career preparation.

Include any documentation to support the application—including clippings, letters of support, etc.

Applications must be submitted to the  Secretary, Journalism Department, no later than 4 p.m., April 14, 2006.

After the application date, selected applicants may be invited for an interview by the award panel, which will then select the recipient.

The 2006 award carries with it a cash grant of $800

The David J. Rovnan Memorial Award was established in 1989 to honor the member of the IUP Penn who best represents the journalistic ideals and practices, and the high personal and professional standards set by David J. Rovnan, an IUP journalism alumnus who served as The Penn editor in 1984.

The applicant must show evidence of superior aptitude, interest, dedication, service, industry and integrity. The scholarship was established through the generosity of the Joseph Rovnan family and by the many contributions made by his many friends, fellow students and colleagues.
