The Journalism Department stresses the importance of freedom and flexibility in course requirements. As a Journalism major you are only required to take four JRNL prefix courses. The rest of the major requirements can be filled with Journalism courses of your choice.

Because of the small class sizes, each Journalism student gets personal attention from their professors. The professors enjoy the classes they teach and their enthusiasm for the subject helps students learn. Class sizes range from 18 to 20 students.
Although internships are not required in the major, they are highly recommended. Internships are an excellent source for gaining hands-on experience in the Journalism field.
