A Smile on Every Child

By Zuhur Yassin Ibrahim--Somaliland

All children deserve to smile all day, every day. No matter where the child lives or whose child he is.

Children are to be loved and cared for; they are not to be abused and exposed to violence. They are to be in good hands and free from any harm; they are not to be used as child soldiers in conflicts or exploited.
They are to be in schools getting education and receiving good health facilities; they are not to be on the streets shinning shoes and begging.

You see pictures of children sad, crying, starving and ignored. We can make a difference. We can put a smile on every child’s face. We have the technology, the brains to work things out, and the health to help around. Then WHY are so many still suffering? I wonder

The situation is known but most of the time is ignored and constantly overlooked. Some things get started but after some time are forgotten. Discussions and BIG conferences are held in the name of children but most of the time they end up on paper. The conditions in which the children of the world are in are continuously talked about but unfortunately most of the time they remain just talks and no Action.

It’s hard but not impossible. The real action that needs to be done is on grassroots level. One person alone can’t make a lot of difference but working together we can change a lot. Action is what is needed. We can all take action in some way or another. It is not always about donating thousands of dollars that most of us don’t even have; little things matter. Showing that you care, and giving a hand to the needy ones is a way to make a difference. Many people today need a hand no matter where they live in America or Africa, there are needy people every where. Look around your community; do you see all Smiley faces? NO!!

If you care and want to make a difference, why not start with your neighborhood and then with your community? See what you can do to help, because there are many things one can do. It takes one person to start and take the initiative. Let that person be YOU, mobilize people to work and volunteer for the good of the community, volunteer in programs, make your voice heard in any way possible. Don’t give up hope. If every person would think that way the world would be a better place; a brighter one for everyone. Let’s not only work for the Brighter tomorrow but also a better today. Lets make a pact; a pact of Action for a better world for you, me and for everyone!
