A beehive of youth activities

SOCSA Center - The only girls recreational center in whole of Somaliland. Established on March 2006 SOCSA Youth Multi Purpose Center is a meeting ground for young girls living in Hargeisa. During the week ends the center is a bee hive of youth activities.

The youth multi purpose center is run by a LNGO called SOCSA (Somaliland Culture and Sports Association) which was establish at the end of 2000. SOCSA works for educating young girls and boys, giving them access to sports activities and access to knowledge and information sharing. The center employs youth volunteers who work part-time and fulltime. Youth accessing the center’s facilities get opportunities to be trained in resources management skills and networking and train other youth with the center.

The recreational center provides various facilities. Basket ball is a major sport activity played within the center, table tennis and volley ball are among the others. There is a resources center (library) where young girls and boys can read and get information from. Among other services the access to internet for a very cheap rate is available for youth who want to access the World Wide Web.

Save the Children (PRM) donated money to the LNGO SOCSA to build this center. UNICEF is also a major contributor to the center, supporting it with equipment, trainings, etc. SOCSA organization members are trying its best to provide the resources and equip the youth accessing the center with information, knowledge and providing opportunities..
