Welcome to Module 5 the Editorial Process.

 

This will be an exciting course because you will learn  all aspects of the Editorial process.

 

First, you will you will learn the basic elements of  editing

Editing for grammar

Editing for style

Editing for content.

 

 

 

Next,  you will also learn the elements of style, photojournalism and layout and design.

 

They are all contained in the videos you have received.

 

In photojournalism you will learn  how to take pictures that TELL a story and how to edit pictures and write captions

 

You will also learn about legal and ethical issues in editing.

 

In layout and design you will how to plan a paper and do layout and design.

 

 The whole class will produce an eight paper TABLOID (11 by 17 inch) newspaper.

 

 

The class will be divided into  eight groups. Each group will be responsible for editing each page.

 

Each group will have.

 

  1. Page Editor. Will be responsible for assigning stories and doing the page layout.
  2. Picture Editor. Will be responsible for taking pictures
  3. Copy editors. Will be responsible for editing stories for that page.
  4. Reporters. Each member of the group will report and write a story for that page.

 

Suggested Page Layout.

 

The class will meet to decide the name of your paper. Do not use the name African Star!!!!

 

Page 1. Will contain  news and pictures

 

Page 2. Will contain more news and pictures

Page 3. Will contain more news and pictures.

 

Page 4. Will be the editorial page. Will contain editorial, and columns and opinions.

 

Page 5. Will contain Features and pictures.

 

Page 6. Will contain more Features and pictures

 

Page 7. will be the Entertainment page with pictures

 

Page 8 will be the Sports Page.
