Citizens ready and willing to plant trees if given seeds

Residents of Hargeisa citizens are very keen and enthusiastic to participate in a tree planting project if they get free seeds.

 

According to recent polls, in a survey by journalism student in Hargeisa University nearly  87 percent, are aware of that cutting trees with out replacing them has created environmental problem their community.

 

Cabdi Cali, a Secondary school teacher, said he had been  telling his students about the advantages of trees for the last five years, and now he has begun visiting other schools to preach the benefits of planting trees.

 

Ironically this poll showed that 69 percent of Hargeisa women are not aware of advantage

of the trees to them and not ready to take part any tree planting project.

 

Amina, a single mother of four children said, “I am very busy looking after  my children by myself, and I am both father and mother to them, so I don't care about trees or environment.”

 

Axmed, 50 years old, a charcoal buyer said, “I cut trees to get a money because I make

charcoal to feed my family of 12 persons. But I plant a tree when I cut  one

tree so I replace what I cut.”

The survey showed that more than 60 percent of the respondents are ready to

encourage, others to take part in a trees planting project, although the people who

participated in planting project was very low at18 percent.

All in all the people are very eager to save the environment, if they get enough

information about the advantage of trees to them.
