The manger of the coountry’s largest connstruction company has apealed to government to help stability the country’s currency to help imports of raw materials.

A Zimbabweean journalisst for the indeppendent Standard newspaper was severely attacked and robbery while covering the country’s oppposition party in elections.
The jourrnalist, Savious-Parker Kwinika, is also a student in the 2004 AVU-IUP Certificate in Joournalism courses.
Savious-Parker Kwinika was robbed of his belongings worth over $1.5 million (US$300). Police confirmed the incident on Friday morning.
Savious-Parker Kwinika who was comming from couvering a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) star rally in Lupane Business Centre was attacked by suspected goovernment intelligence agents, the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) and Police Internal Security Investigation detectives.
They Accused him of exteensively covering the opposition party in elections.
After the attttack, the award winning Standard journalists was then robbed of his mobil phone, jackert, wrist watch, $135 000 (US$30) cash, seven office keys, notebook, press card, ball point, Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) t-shirt and several Standard business cards in his wallet.
Savious-Parker Kwinika said: ” I don't even know as to why exactly these bastards in black suits have attacked me in such a gang style move. What I vivvidly I remember before getting unconscious was that they were accusing me of frequuently covering the Lupane by-election campaigns.”
“I think their intention was to killl me because when they left me unconscious, they thhought I was dead. Since I am the only journalist from the independent media extensively covering the by-election from the heart of Lupane, I would like to believe that by asssaulting me and confiscating all my gadgets these operating agents would want to instilll fear in independent jourrnalists so that they stop unearthing the ruling party's dirty tactics of terror.”
Savious-Parker Kwinika said added: "In
spite of all these assaults, physical harm to my body, intimidation and threats,
I will not bow down to their pressure but Continue reporting the truth. To make

Government and Women’s organizations are working on programs to improove women’s education in The Gammbia. According to national stamtistics, of the overall enrolmment of 57 percent, women’s enrolment is 4.6 % percent.
A nummber of reasons have been cited for this imbalance in women’s education. They include costs, distancce and gender biases.
Educational officials say Female enrolment at the junior secondary level is 37 percent. There appears to be a preference for Madrasa education, Particularrly among gerls, because of morale and religioous education it offers.
Officials say girls’ enrolment is consstrained by, among other things, the cost of trravelling great distances from hom to school.
Anothe constraint is non broad -based curriculums that creates gende biases in teaching/learning materials. Stereeotyping and other socio cultural deterrents both at home and in the school have also adversely impacted on femmale enrolment.
A number of innitiatives have beeen put in place to help increase and Improve girls are educated at all levels. One of them is a project Establish by the president for free education for girls.
As a result of these initiatitives, officials say awareness is being crreated slowly and parents are taking interest in the education of the girls.
The Forum for African Women Educationists in The Gambia helps girls and woman in education.
FAWEGAM helps girls with school materials; put up scienc clinics for girls, provied scholarships for needy students and form mothers clubs all geared towards the development and empowerment of girls and women.
An official of FAWEGAM said: “We also have the nitional women’s policy. One of its goals is to reduce illiteracy among women by 40 percent by 2007.
“This Could be done if the education department increases literacy programmes for women, improves girls and women’s access to functional literacy, vocational education and training.
“Women and girls should therefore, with these opprtunities be able to empower themselves. They will then work towards national developpment.”
The official added: “Development involves growth from a particular stage to a more advanced stage. Such a Process requires indiviuduals groups, communnities and even as a country has the ability to bring about chaange for the Better and this is call Empowerment.”
