45 C : Bosaso’s hot climate can claim lives

Hussein Shirwac, a former staff for Amal Bank in Bosaso, had  repeatedly complained about a headache during his stay in Bosaso.

 

He underwent several physicals but the doctors he contacted locally were unable to identify the cause of the headaches.

 

Some physicians had prescribed to him a typhoid medicine and others

advised Shirwac that he should change from living in the hot climate and hang out for a while in cooler places.         

 

In August, 2005, Shirwac got a chance to visit Nairobi, the Kenyan capital,  where one day he collapsed and was hospitalized. It became apparent that that Shirwac was not aching from either typhoid or any other disease after he was given medical clearance from his check-up. However, a doctor who examined him said there was “some smoke” in Shirwac’s chest which might have resulted from a  prolonged work in a bakery, but really, it was no big-deal.

 

 In the first place, Shirwac was not a baker. He was a remittance  manager in Bosaso. This town which lies at the eastern part of the country. Sometimes its

temperature can reach 45C (113F). Such high temperature has claimed the lives of many people...
