Train the trainers workshop on HIV/AIDS ends

Hargeisa, Somaliland, June 14, 2007 – Horn of Africa Voluntary Youth Committee-(HAVOYOCO) implemented 14 days long a “Trainers of Trainees” (TOT) workshop on HIV/AIDS, held in Hargeysa, Somaliland.

 This training provided by HAVOYOCO, which attended by 12 participants from Five Regions of Somaliland, and focused HIV/AIDS, that was also fallowed by previous workshops held on May this year.

 “This is a productive workshop which I believed that every one will have the ability to share skills and knowledge with others.  We come up with the idea of YOUTH and HIV/AIDS week in October of every year as our goal is to accelerate awareness of HIV/AIDS among YOUTH in festive series atmosphere, utilization such grass roots youth organization like Circus in Hargeisa, TOGYOVO in Burao, GAVO in Berbera and ACARO in Borama” The HIV/AIDS project manager of the organization, Miss, Su’ad A. Elmi.

She also announced that the method used in this workshop is focusing on brainstorming, group works and role play exercise which will encourage every member of the group to be part of the team. “We include things such as introduction, energizers and warm up games” Miss. Su’ad Said.

 Abdillahi Warsame Omer, one of the trainees, expressed his feelings about the workshop and said: “today I become more frank and explicit in discussing about sexuality modes of transmission and the method of protection, now I have basic skills about HIV/AIDS and I can help my country to understand how to prevent and protect against this deadly disease.”

Finally, the HAVOYOCO project manager, Miss. Su’ad A.Elmi hopped that the participants of this Workshop will take advantage from the given opportunity, and she promised that her self and her collogues that HAVOYOCO will continue such a kind of workshops in the future. “I hope that we all benefit from this workshop and we are in HAVOYOCO will continue and continue this kind of workshop in future. Because our strategy is to increase HIV/AIDS awareness in Somaliland through various methods.” said the HAVOYOCO HIV/AIDS project manager.
