The Gambia is experiencing armed robberies  partly because of immigrants from war-torn countries, a police officer  has said.

Speaking during an interview  Station Officer  Inspector Trawally said  armed robberies  in the country were extremely rare until  recently.

“Although rampant, armed robbers do not happen every day,” he said.

Inspector Trawally said police are making all efforts to capture and prosecute armed robbers.

“We want to protect the public and investments. We will not leave any stone unturned to protect people  and property  from  criminals, especially armed robbers,” Inspector Trawally said.

When armed robbers are arrested they are interrogated and if  there is any evidence against them  police charge and arraign the robbers before  a court of law where they are treated  in accordance wit the law, he said.
