Facilitators
Manual. Part 1
This manual will contain
specific information for facilitators on the Certificate in Journalism course.
It is important that you
follow , in consultation with AVU headquarters in
Role of the
facilitator.
A. To take attendance each
time the class meets for the course. The attendance record will be very
important in awarding certificates. These certificates will be awarded by the
Center for Continuing Education’s Distance Education Program at
The attendance record will be sent to AVU in
B. To moderate class
activities.
The second course is Basic Journalism Skills. It will consist of
several lectures. Each lecture is between one and one and half hours long. Each session will be shown
each week. The class will meet once a week
for one and half hour lecture. It is up to you to decide how and what times to
meet. The course will last 10 weeks.
C. Videos must be shown in the order. They are marked and must follow
the syllabus.:
D. After taking the attendance, the
facilitator will show the video. Each video contains breaks every 30 minutes.
Here the facilitator can stop the video and ask students to write down any
questions or comments they may have about what they have watched. I suggest you
break for 6- 10 minutes.
Here are questions for discussion:
1.
What have I
learned from the video so far?
2.
What
questions do I have about
what has been presented on the video so far?
3.
What
contributions can I made about the role of journalism as described in the
video?
After one and half hours the class can take a longer break. Here I want
the class to discuss the following questions:
1.
What have we
learned about community journalism so far?
2.
What
questions do we have about what we have learned so far?
The facilitator must take notes of whatever students are saying.
The facilitator can also ask the students to discuss what they have
learned in the video. Also help students to access class notes on webCT.
If there is a webCT test the facilitator can help students how to access the webCT
test.
E. If students have access to computers, they should be encouraged to
use webCT email to send me
questions and comments.
Lecture notes.
Students can read
on webCT the lecture notes before or after the video showing.
Facilitators will help students log onto to the webCT. This will only
be possible after all the names of the students have been sent to me so they
can be issued with
usernames and passwords.
Detailed lecture notes can be found on this webCT course module.
