Kumba Bah a doctor at Ndungu Kebbeh Health Center has given insightful information about TB.
Tuberculosis is a disease of public health importance in most develop and underdeveloped countries including the Gambia. If unchecked, it occurs in serious consequences such as permanent disability or death.
Tuberculosis is a type of an infected disease which occurs when the virus get into human’s body through the lungs. This disease affects the lungs and it can stay for a long period. Tuberculosis mostly targets people at the age of 15-35 years who are lacking in nutrition.
Some can get tuberculosis from the milk of a cow. If a cow is carrying the disease, anyone who drinks that cow’s milk without boiling it can be infected y it. A person can also get T.B. by sharing properties with somebody who has T.B. Although, tuberculosis is a curable disease it is very easy to get infect a person.
The disease have some signs and symptoms. A person having TB always has a serious cough, especially when he wakes up from bed early in the morning. Another symptom of TB is having high temperature during the day time. He always sweats during the night time and having chest and back pain continuously as well as losing weight.
It will go up to a stage that the person will start coughing blood and his or her voice change heavily when speaking. If this happen and the individual is untreated TB can cause serious consequences including death.
If you are living with a person who has TB. you must be very careful. He should not spit on the ground. He should spit in a pot or a piece of cotton. Avoid eating or drinking with him in the same bowl or cup and do not sleep with him or her in the same bed. It is advisable that if anyone sees uncomfortable changes in the body, let him/her see a doctor q |
