UNIVERSITY OF HARGEISA

Background
The university is presently situated in a one-square kilometre of land that used to be a boarding secondary school before the collapse of the military regime of Siyad Barre.  The campus and its buildings later became an unofficial Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp and then a militia barracks.  Following much deliberation and intensive campaigns, the old school grounds were transformed into a University in the year 2000.  The university is in the heart of the Somaliland capital, Hargeisa and is very strategically placed to serve the educational needs of both local city residents and international staff residing in the capital.

The university is currently running five faculties:
1. Faculty of Business Administration
2. Faculty of Islamic Studies
3. Faculty of science
4.  Faculty of Medicine
5. Faculty of law
