Analysis of Puntland media coverage.

A growing number of people of Puntland are now  using the internet for news and information. As a result, there is a decline in the number of newspapers.  One weekly, the KAAH BARI  is published in the Somali language

There  are several FM radio stations in Puntland; Somali broadcasting Service (SBC),

Midnimo, Garowe, Galakio, Codka nabadda (Voice of the peace) and Las’anood. They broadcast

local, international news, business advertisements, entertainment and

public awareness.

Most radios stations transmit in their  towns and inside a radius of 10 km

sq). However,  SBC and Voice of Peace radio stations  reach all the regions of

Puntland. SBC has a BBC Somali section and people get news from BBC through SBC.

There are many Somali websites but  the information is not reliable. Editors, news writers and

website developers are not professional. Most of them are clan based. They write what

they believe  will favor  their clans. They broadcast  war propaganda.

There are very few professional  journalists who present  news and information of benefit to the entire Somalis.

BBC is  a major source  information for  Somalia.  People trust the BBC. Now BBC is heard through stations in  Somalia, like Hargeisa,

Mogadishu, Nairobi, Djibouti, Bosaso, Qardo and Garowe.
