Water pollution in Somaliland

Mustafe Sulub Muhumed

Water flowing to sea, Awbarkad-leh, Hargeisa region

Water sources for Somaliland community are: water from underground and water from

rain.

Underground water raise by water pump machine saves in damps and reached to the town

through pipe lines.

Rain water is kept by damps the community uses at rural areas.

In general two types of water pollutants mostly exist in the earth:

Point sources of pollution: which occur the time harmful substances are emitted directly into the water.

Rural community saves water into the boreholes at the winter period as use as usual, once they use water borehole some times the domestic animals drink at the other side of the borehole, so water is polluted for their wastes became unclean for its intended use.

The local community throws dumps to the water streams which flow into the sea in rainy days.water running, Hargeisa

More running water after minutes

Non point source pollution is when is polluted indirectly through an environmental

change.

The source pollution is defined when a harmful particles are emitted directly into a water,

e.g. petroleum waste. This type of pollution, get on here, Somaliland.

In coastal towns, sewages and toilets have effect for the water. Some houses havesewages and toilets those flow to sea.

Municipalities authority are trying efforts to stop people who are using water streams asdumps site but this is succeeded.
