Punt land Minister grants EAU a radio broadcasting license.

 

The East Africa university community radio was officially launched on Sunday  by the Minister of information Mr.Abdirahaman Mohamed Bankah.He emphasized that the radio shall be free of politics and  shall be used to disseminate information to the community with impartial and balanced reporting. The radio shall also be used by the journalism students to help them develop their skills.

East Africa University launches community  Radio

East Africa University is launching a first ever  community Radio broadcasting  service, A/nuur ,Dean of BBA of EAU, said the Community Radio opening will reach thousands of people around  city of Bosaso

 “ we will keep thousand of local people will listen programs relevant or tailored to their needs such Health programs , Education, Economics, culture, Current events and life of Minority and Marginalized group in Puntland,” he said

The Community radio programs will be aired in Bosaso on second week of March, 2008

Our listeners throughout the Bosaso will be able to listen to the Somali news in Somali languages.

This community Radio will be on air 7 days a week at 6 to 8:00pm local time from Saturday to Friday on FM frequency 98.0 MHz.

The United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Dr.Jendayi Frazer today rewarded a visit to Somaliland to hold discussions with President Dahir Rayale Kahin and senior members of the Somaliland parliament.

New-look African Star

Welcome to the new-look and redesigned African Star. Each university, learning center or program now has its own website. All the stories written by students will in the next two months be moved to the new site.

New Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication distance education course to be introduced.

The Gambia will be the first to enroll students into the Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication distance education program. The program will be halfway between the certificate and the degree  in journalism and mass communication programs currently on offer. It will run for two years. Click here for more details

Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication students will be graduating in December 2008.

The first batch of students in the degree program in journalism and mass communication at University of Hargeisa and East African University are expected to graduate in December.

The schedule for the year 2008 includes African Political systems, Mass Media Management and the Editorial process, a Practicum in radio broadcasting. Students will be expected to produced a monthly  publication.

 

Students begin broadcasting

Journalism students at East African University will begin broadcasting this month, thanks to the license to broadcast given by the Puntland Government. Broadcasting equipment was provided by Unesco.

Minister to meet students on broadcasting

The Minister of Information  in Somaliland will meet with students and authorities at the University of Hargeisa to discuss the application by the university for a license to broadcast.

Scholarship appeal for Somali women in the media is launched

A campaign to raise scholarships for women in the media in Somalia has been launched. The campaign is a joint effort of the UNDP Somalia, African Virtual University and the UNDP-USA NGO. The focus on building capacity on women  is consistent with the United Nations millennium development goals in improving the situation of women in development in the Third World.
