Text Box: Air pollution in Somaliland
Mustafe Sulub Muhumed
Air pollution has long been considered as a threat to human health and the environment.
But it has increased  since mid last century with industrial growth.
In Somaliland air pollution has also been increasing since the  beginning urbanization and imports of large numbers of automobiles.
In an effort to arrest pollution local communities in Hargeisa and soldiers  participated in  sanitation projects in May 2007.
Although air pollution in Somaliland is not very high, the extensive use of
automobiles, growing small industries and domestic environment can cause increasing risk of pollution.
Destroying forests, wood fires and dusts also produce significant amounts of smoke into the air.
Growing pollution nowadays can even damage the health of plants, human beings and also animals. Our inability to control airborne pollutants could risk the health of many lives.
The government prepared large dump for deposing waste last month. See picture below.
